Smyrna Library hosts winter reading program

Looking to put an end to those cold winter blues?

Then warm up with some great books in the Walter King Hoover Winter Reading Program at Smyrna Public Library. This year Smyrna Public Library will hold its eighth annual Winter Reading Program from January 19-February 26, 2009.

Modeled after the popular Summer Reading Program for children, the Winter Reading Program focuses on adults and teens and rewards them for reading books with prizes.

The program is named in memory of local historian Walter King Hoover. Mr. Hoover was a long-time supporter of the library and always wanted to see more adult-oriented programming offered to the community.

Participants fill out review forms for each book they read. They are then entered into weekly drawings for prizes such as gasoline cards, theatre tickets, and local restaurant gift cards. All review forms must be turned in by 4:30 p.m. each Friday to be eligible for that week's drawing.

Every patron who meets the reading goal will be awarded a gift bag and will be entered to win a Sony E-Reader Touch Edition.

As part of the Winter Reading Program, the library will host an author talk with author of Mermaids in the Basement, Michael Lee West.

Smyrna Public Library is located at 400 Enon Springs Road W. in Smyrna. The Library is the cornerstone of our community, enriching lives through free resources for learning, fun, and opportunity. For more information, call 615-459-4884 or visit www.linebaugh.org.
