Sleet, snow move into mid-state

A light mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain will continue moving into western and northern Middle Tennessee this morning accumulations ranging from 4-9 inches across Middle Tennessee.

Light ice accumulations will be possible in areas where the temperature is at or below freezing and slippery spots will develop on area roadways, especially along bridges and overpasses. Motorists are urged to use caution. Travel is discouraged unless absolutely necessary.

As the morning progresses expect precipitation intensity and coverage to increase from west to east.

Precipitation will spread eastward during the afternoon with a wintry mix continuing south but precipitation changing to mostly snow across the north. Significant accumulations of snow and ice are likely by sunset with additional accumulations expected overnight.

Light snow will linger in the mid-state for a good part of the day on Saturday but will end in the west by sunset.

Travel problems will also continue as temperatures will remain below 32 degrees throughout the day.
