I journeyed to Siegel High recently and watched as the Lady Stars beat Ravenwood, 56-41. The boys also won 60-47. Both squads picked up their eighth wins of the year.
The Lady Stars opened up in a man-to-man defense and threw in a 2-3 zone later. Both defenses were effective especially when they fronted the Raptor post players.
Siegel hit three 3-pointers in the first half, got an early lead and finished with balanced scoring.
They were led by Amber Daniels with 16 points followed by Paris Lawson with 14 and Ashley Daniels with 11. The guards, Erica Roberts and Maddie Francescan were the first line of a very aggressive defense and also scored 15 points between them. Siegel does not really have a center and got no points from their bench.
The Siegel boys play a 2-3 zone with lots of pressure on the ball, and they take advantage of their exceptional quickness in a press.
Against Ravenwood the Stars jumped to a 15-0 lead and, although the Raptors made a comeback, the result was never in doubt.
Robert Brandon, who is one of the best three players in the district, led the way with 17 points, while Ryan Jones had 15 and Clarles Clark had 10. Dominique Gooch came off the bench for seven.
Siegel Notes: The Siegel crowd was small, which for some reason has become a trend, but the student section (Siegel Nation) was reasonably large and loud.
