The scene of a multiple shooting and robbery attempt was found burning Monday, Murfreesboro Police Department reported.

The Searcy Street home, where one man was killed and three others critically injured about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, was found on fire around 6 p.m. Monday night.

MPD reported to the scene where the front-right part of the house “gulfed in flames,” MPD Officer Deric Haynes reported.

Witness and neighbor Shawn Michelson informed Haynes he heard a loud pop and breaking glass just before the house caught fire.

“Right now it’s a suspicious fire,” Assistant Fire Chief Gary Farley said, adding the scene has been inspected by the fire marshal, but no cause has been determined yet.

“We hope to know more later,” Farley said.

Murfreesboro Fire and Police Departments are conducting a joint investigation into the fire.

Last Tuesday, Tommie Deshaun Moss, 34, of 1346 Searcy St. died at the house during an attempted robbery. Kaitlyn S. Kennedy, 18, of 261 Barfield-Crescent Road, Jeff C. Fogle, 20, of Bradyville Pike and David Matthew Tompson, 22, of College Grove suffered shotgun wounds and were admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Moss died in the driveway outside his home. Kennedy suffered a gunshot wound to her chest and leg. Fogle suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and Tompson suffered a gunshot wound to his head. Two other residents inside the home were not injured.

Suspects Bobby Jewell “B.J.” Wilson, 18, and Jonathan D. Alajemba, 18, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, criminal attempt to commit especially aggravated robbery and criminal conspiracy.

A 17-year-old juvenile was also charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder last Thursday in the incident and may be prosecuted as an adult, a prosecutor said Friday.

Maybe the neighbors got tired of all the drug activity there, and decided to clean up the neighborhood? Just sayin'.

That would be understandable in a normal neighborhood, but searcy st area that kind of "activity" is the norm.

I know nothing of this neighborhood or it's reputation. It certainly does not look like an area one might consider robbing for any significant financial gain. Could it be there was some prior knowledge that a large amount of money might be there? It simply doesn't make any sense to invade a home in a neighborhood that could only be considered far from affluent unless there was reason to believe some extra loot was to be had. It certainly would come as no surprise if something extra-legal was going on at the location. On the other hand, the mopes that perpetrated this crime were very obviously not rocket scientists so utter stupidity cannot be ruled out. Still, I am inclined to strongly suspect the shooters had some knowledge of the place and some expectation that there would be a wad of cash or other commodity of value to them on hand.
