Not many shoe stores have weekends dedicated to fighting cancer, but that's what is happening at Divas.

This weekend, the store is having a Think Pink Campaign to spread breast cancer awareness. Located at Stones River Mall in Murfreesboro, Divas is a hip new shoe store ran by Cecili Sellers and her father, Ronald. The store carries specialty shoes such as The Rush and the Diva Flat.

Divas first opened their doors on Dec. 21, 2012. The store is dedicated to Sellers' mother, Kimberly, who died from breast cancer in July.

“My goal is to make a dent in breast cancer awareness because I have a big connection with it,” Sellers said. “I want it to be memorable and something we can do every year.”

During the Think Pink Campaign, 10 percent of the weekend's sales will go to the National Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation in honor of Sellers' late mother.

“We're asking businesses to give a donation that automatically goes to the fund,” Sellers said. “People can make a donation that goes directly into the fund or buy a product from Divas.”

Divas is known for their trademark shoes, which are transported from New York and Los Angeles.

Sellers told The Murfreesboro Post that her mother was a big inspiration to her.

“I never want anyone to feel the pain I felt when my mother passed away,” she said. “My mommy helped me in so many ways – she was one of my best friends. My mom taught me about life and how to be a woman in a business. She left this earth with a great impact on literally thousands of people.”

The hours of the Think Pink Campaign will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and noon- 6 p.m. Sunday.

“We thank everyone for their support and hope to see you wearing something pink on March 16 and 17,” said Sellers.

Appointments can be made before or after store hours. For more information, call the store at 615-624-6145 or visit divasshoez.com.
