Unveiling progress on the 9/11 monument will be the premier event at the ninth annual 9/11 Community Fair to remember the Americans who lost their lives to terrorists Sept. 11, 2001.
More than 5,000 citizens are expended to attend the free Ninth Community Fair that kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at the sheriff’s office at 940 New Salem Highway. A ceremony at the monument at 2 p.m. will remember those emergency responders and citizens who lost their lives 10 years ago during the terrorists’ attacks.
The monument will memorialize firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, military and citizens who died when terrorists crashed airliners into the World Trade Centers in New York City, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
A 3,000-pound artifact from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center is the centerpiece of the monument. Cost is estimated at $30,000.
The sheriff’s office is selling bricks at $100 for an 8x8 and a $50 for a 4x8 brick to help fund the monument. Bricks must be purchased by July 28 to ensure it will be installed at the monument Sept. 11. Also, monument donations are also being accepted. For more information, call Sgt. Jimmy Cassidy at 904-3018, Deputy Greg Dotson at 904-3033 or Deputy Jim Noe at 904-3019.
Civic clubs may display information about their organization for free during the fair.
For-profit businesses who want to set up a display must pay a $25 booth fee. Vendors who are selling products such as food or drinks at the fair must pay a $50 booth fee. Those fees are due by Aug. 31 at the Community Services Office at 940 New Salem Highway, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37129.
