The 9/11 Memorial will be dedicated at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro.

The centerpiece of the memorial is a 3,000-pound I-beam from Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. Veteran David Judy of Operation Iraqi Freedom delivered the I-beam from New York City to the Sheriff's Office in February 2011.

Citizens and businesses funded the memorial at no cost to taxpayers through donations of supplies, concrete and money, while other residents purchased memorial bricks that will be laid near the monument.

The event includes music, emergency services displays and booths featuring local nonprofit organizations.
