Sheriff's Office investigating Orchard Park Drive fire

Family members escaped their burning home early Friday morning after fire gutted the structure on Orchard Park Drive, county officials said.

County Fire Chief Larry Farley said the fire started in an electrical panel and spread throughout the home.

“It was close to a total loss,” Farley said.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Tom Bunch reported the house off Old Barfield Road was valued at $190,000.

Smoke alarms awoke homeowner David Anthony who located the fire in the garage near the electrical box about 1:27 a.m., Bunch reported. He and his wife, Beverly, and son, John David, safely got out of the burning house.

Rutherford County Fire and Rescue 1, 2 and 3 units along with Christiana and Rockvale Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the blaze.

Firefighters were on the scene about six hours.

Sheriff’s Detective Randy Groce is investigating.

One department we can cut a lot from is the police dept. It should be cut atleast 50%.
