Sheriff's Department joins Facebook

Rutherford County sheriff’s office is going on a social network to connect with citizens.

The sheriff’s office launched its own Facebook page this week, said Sgt. James Harrell of the Community Service Unit.

“We’re hoping to connect with citizens in the county,” Harrell said. “We want Facebook to be successful to citizens interested in law enforcement efforts we are making at the sheriff’s office.”

Fans will get access to current and accurate information such as media releases, Most Wanted, current events, old photos of the sheriff’s office, new photos, videos and tips on safety and crime prevention. They will also receive information about Citizens Sheriff’s Academy classes.

The sheriff’s office wants fans to make suggestions and comments.

Deputy Greg Dotson said more than 150 people signed up the first afternoon.

“It’s awesome,” Dotson said of the first-day participation.
