A convicted violent sex offender was apprehended last Wednesday after he was accused of failing to comply with the state’s sex offenders’ registry law, said a Rutherford County detective supervisor. Suspect Randy Tate, 45, who is homeless, was charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender, violation of probation and theft by Detectives Bryant Gregory and Steve Kohler and Deputy Andrea Knox. The suspect is registered with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as a violent sex offender who has to report in person every March, June, September and December for the rest of his life, said Detective Sgt. Mickey McCullough. “Tate has been in non-compliance with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and several other agencies including ours since his release from prison and was noted to be armed and dangerous,” McCullough said. Kohler and Knox obtained arrest warrants for Tate. Kohler and Gregory drove to a Nashville neighborhood Wednesday in an effort to locate and apprehend Tate. Because of the information they gathered, the detectives arrested Tate. Tate was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Court hearings on the charges were set Tuesday and Nov. 8. McCullough commended Kohler, Gregory and Knox for their work on the case.
