Seven Murfreesboro firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling an attic fire about 1:30 p.m. Saturday off Sulphur Springs Road, a  fire commander said.

All seven firefighters were taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where one was admitted for observation, three were released and went home and three returned to work, said Commander Tim Swann.

Some of the firefighters suffered burns when debris from the ceiling fell and lodged inside their coats and a couple were treated for heat exhaustion, Swann said.

"I've never had that many injured on one fire scene," Swann said.

Firefighters from stations on Memorial Boulevard, Jones Boulevard, Thompson Lane and Pitts Boulevard responded to the fire at 2019 Ravenwood Drive. Smoke was visible from Memorial Boulevard. An ambulance responded as a precaution.

After the firefighters were injured, paramedics treated them and called for a second ambulance who transported all the firefighters to the emergency room.

When firefighters arrived at the burning home, they found fire in the attic. The family was not home. Debris from the attic fell into the interior of the home. Firefighters were able to save some of the contents.

"I would consider it a complete loss," Swann said.

Fire Marshal Ken Honeycutt and Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas were trying to determine cause of the fire.
