MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Linda Burt, the director of the Saint Clair Street Senior Center, recently announced that she plans to retire, effective Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014.

Burt has worked at the senior center since moving to Murfreesboro five years ago. Prior to joining the city of Murfreesboro, she was the executive director of the Riverton Senior Center in Riverton, Wyo., from 1998 to 2008. Before holding that position, she served the aging population at various retirement communities and assisted living facilities, as well as personal care homes and memory care centers.

While Director of senior center in Murfreesboro, she has been committed and focused on improving the center and the quality of life for participants with many new programs, technological updates, functional additions and services.

Burt said she has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the city and has a great appreciation for the excellent team of employees and administrative staff.

“I definitely have mixed emotions about retiring from the city and leaving the great staff of the senior center and the many patrons,” she said, “but I am also excited about pursing some new opportunities.”

After retirement, Burt said she plans to complete her doctorate in early 2014, and she is looking forward to new adventures and a new journey to improve health in America, and especially the health of the aging population.
