Scaring up a good time downtown

Murfreesboro is full of ghost stories and one group tries to hunt them down.

The Society for Paranormal Investigation and Research in Tennessee (SPIRIT) will share some of the true stories with the public over the next few weekends.

Like an investigation it did three weeks ago at Anastasia’s Attic on the Square.

“We caught an apparition of a man in the attic and what we call true orbs,” explained Terry Mayo, president of SPIRIT.

The group also caught a disembodied voice on tape, or an electronic voice phenomenon (EVP), in the basement.

“These are 15 places that our team has investigated. They’re what we consider authentic,” Mayo said.

The tour starts at Big B Cleaners on the Square, with stops at the Blue Rooster, Liquid Smoke and Anatasia’s Attic. It continues on West College Street to Spring Street to Vine Street and back to the Square, ending at Pastime Barbarshop.

“We are not storytellers. We are ghost hunters talking about the true ghosts in the buildings downtown,” Mayo said.

The ghost tour of downtown starts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again Saturday, Oct. 30.

The group will also give a presentation from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 27-29 at Murfreesboro Little Theater on Ewing Street.

S.P.I.R.I.T. will tell stories about Gus and Cub Scout, the two ghosts that haunt the little log cabin, as well as show how their equipment works and give a basic primer on ghost hunting.

The presentation is free, but donations benefiting MLT will be accepted.
