Young adults ages 16 to 35 who are looking for something fun and interesting to do to make a difference in the life of a child this Christmas have ample opportunity this Saturday, Dec. 10.

Teenagers, church groups, MTSU and other college students, young singles and young married couples can participate as teammates in The Charity Adventure.

Theevent, which will start at 5 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 1137 W. Main St. in Murfreesboro, will raise funds for the Forgotten Angels who are part of TheSalvation Army Angel Tree program.

Teams will crisscross the city in a scavenger hunt-style competition, trying to accumulate points while making Christmas much merrier for Forgotten Angels, some of the 1,400 Angel Tree angels registered this year in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.

It is the brainchild of brothers Seth and Caleb Tidwell of Murfreesboro. As Christians and college students four years ago, they were inspired to create “a wholesome, fun party — without alcohol and other ‘college’ things,” said Caleb Tidwell, who is organizing this year’s Charity Adventure along with his brother, and both serve on The Salvation Army voluntary community board.

In the game, teams of four to 10 people contribute $10 each, all of which goes to Forgotten Angels, who have not been picked this year. The participants will be given a list of activities to complete, such as pumping gas and singing Christmas carols to strangers, dressing up as Santa Claus, collecting money as a Salvation Army bell ringer, solving puzzles and more, . They have to record their adventure with a digital camera. In the competition, the top three groups will earn gift cards from Demos’, Chili’s, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chuy’s, TGI Fridays and other local establishments.

“The focus of this citywide adventure is to help buy toys for the Forgotten Angels, but it could be described as Christmas charity gift-wrapped in competition,” Tidwell said.
