| The Salvation Army of Rutherford County is requesting donations of supplies for its annual Back to School Drive. “The Back to School Drive is a wonderful program that brings people in our community together to provide school supplies to children who need them,” said Melissa Shields, shelter and social services director. People can bring donations to The Salvation Army front office from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m.-noon Fridays. The Salvation Army is located at 1137 W. Main St., just one block from Old Fort Parkway. Requested items include backpacks, pencils, black and blue ink pens, erasers, highlighters, rulers, glue, regular and jumbo crayons, markers, colored pencils, pencil boxes and bags, pencil sharpeners, white paper (wide and college), kindergarten and second-grade writing tablets, compass and protractor, paper towels, hand soap, face tissues and antibacterial wipes. All items are needed by Monday, June 29. Rutherford County students are welcome to attend the Back to School Drive from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, at the Salvation Army building, Shields said.
