NASHVILLE – The Rutherford Heart Ball, held on February 19 at the Embassy Suites and Hotel Conference Center in Murfreesboro, raised $108,000 net for the American Heart Association.

Funds raised at the Heart Ball directly support research, hospital outreach and community education, to fight cardiovascular disease, the No. 1 killer of men and women and the No. 2 killer of children. With funds raised at this event, the American Heart Association has helped place AED’s in Rutherford County and trained 600 Rutherford-area students per year in CPR, among other local initiatives. The Heart Balls held nationwide are a key fundraising component for the association, which is currently funding more than $5.6 million in active research grants at Middle Tennessee institutions, and $132 million nationwide, second only to the federal government.

Presenting sponsor of the Rutherford Heart Ball was Saint Thomas Heart at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Heart Ball Chairs were David and Karen Scott.

The evening’s live auction items and the amounts raised included:

- One-Week Getaway to Mexico, donated by Joshua Schulz/Laura Lechi: $1200

- A Symphonic Night: evening at the Nashville Symphony, donated by RegionsBank: $600
