Rutherford County Schools mourns the passing of School Board member Helen Blankenship

Officials with Rutherford County Schools were saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Rutherford County Board of Education member Helen Blankenship.

"Helen was dedicated to ensuring Rutherford County students received strong academic opportunities. She was especially supportive of Career and Technical Education offerings," Director of Schools Don Odom said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."

Ms. Blankenship, 45, was elected to the School Board in August 2012. She was known for her good-mannered personality, her dedication to duty, her love for her family and her pride for her community.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 8 from 2-6 p.m. at Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home at 820 South Church Street in Murfreesboro. The funeral will follow at 6:30 at Jennings and Ayers officiated by Jim Newman, pastor of Lascassas United Methodist Church, where Blankenship was a member. Helen was one of the nicest ladies I've ever met. She was always smiling, loved helping students, and made Rutherford County a better place. She will be missed dearly.
