The Rutherford County Football Jamboree was held Friday night at Smyrna, with Blackman, Oakland and Siegel  coming out victorious in a half of play. Smyrna and Riverdale tied in the finale.

The regular season begins on Thursday night as Smyrna and La Vergne hook up. Riverdale and Siegel play on Friday night and Oakland visits Blackman on Sunday in an 11 a.m. game that will be televised on ESPN2.

Friday's Jamboree recap:

Blackman 33, Stewarts Creek 7

The Red Hawks are better despite the score and dressed 65 plus players and  have a very quick team that never quit. They are no longer a doormat.

Blackman dressed 80 plus players. QB Jennings played a lot and did well. This is a strong and quick team with great size.

Oakland 41, Mt. Juliet 0

The Pats are powerful on both sides of the ball and went 75 yards to score in less than three minutes to start the half, while the defense had a shutout. They dressed 80 plus  players along with a new offense. Is the pass defense a weakness? Maybe.

Siegel 21,  La Vergne 7

Siegel dressed 75 plus  players. The defense, like last year, is questionable but the ground game appears solid. The lines on both sides of the ball need work but played reasonably well.

LaVergne dressed 70 players with plenty of talent but were generally ineffective on both sides of the ball. The Wolverines have a lightening quick secondary and plenty of firepower on offense,  but despite numerous opportunities, only scored once.

Riverdale 10, Smyrna 10

Riverdale and Smyrna draw just about the same Jamboree comments. They both are former state powers fighting to regain that level. Both gave the crowd new offensive looks and both feature many young players. Both teams had their moments and both have a lot of work to do.
