A strong cold front entering the Southeast today puts Middle Tennessee at risk for thunderstorms, hail and possibly tornadoes.

Look for storms to become more numerous as we go through the day with a few storms having the potential for producing damaging winds along with large hail. With good turning that exists in the environmental winds isolated tornadoes are also possible.

In addition dangerous cloud to ground lightning strikes can be expected along with locally heavy rainfall, which will cause small creeks and streams to rise quickly and produce ponding on roadways.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving on area roadways today.

A low-pressure front was centered over central Arkansas this morning with a warm front into West Tennessee and along Interstate 40 through Middle Tennessee.

A strong cold front extended north and south from the low through Missouri and Illinois and down through eastern Texas.

This places Middle Tennessee well within the warm sector with dew points running in the lower 70s and rather deep shear aloft along with a strong low-level jet across the area.
