RuCo invades YouTube

Rutherford County has begun posting governmental meetings on YouTube.

“YouTube has recently started allowing governments
to apply for a special membership that lifts the 10 minute time restriction and
eliminates solicitations,” said Brian Robertson, Rutherford County’s Chief Information Officer.
The county has tried different methods over the years to provide recordings of meetings online, with varying results.

Robertson said the main advantage of the YouTube arrangement is the videos are stored on YouTubes servers and not the county’s, which saves funds,

“For the avid RCTV
viewer you can even see meetings in high definition which isn’t possible on government access television,” he said. “Just like with all YouTube channels, you can ‘subscribe’ or ‘follow’ a channel to be made aware when a new video has been posted.”

The county will still provide a ‘live’ feed of RCTV on its Web site at www.rutherfordcountytn.gov/rctv.htm.
