Update: Tom Walker resigned his post as the Rutherford County elections administrator Wednesday morning.

Walker, along with Republican commissioners Doris Jones and Oscar Gardner, had come under fire in recent months after allegedly violating the state's Sunshine Law and their role in a lawsuit filed by the previous elections administrator, Hooper Penuel.

Earlier this year, the trio was asked to step down from their appointed positions by the Rutherford County Republican Party.

Former Murfreesboro City Councilman David Edwards and Ransom Jones, who previously served on the commission, will join Jimmy Evans on the Republican side of the Rutherford County Election Commission.

The pair will replace Doris Jones and Gardner, who resigned earlier this month after State Sen. Bill Ketron confirmed requested their resignations.

They will serve on an interim basis until April, when the state commission appoints members to two-year terms.

Democrat John Taylor is now the acting chairman of the election commission, a job he held in the past.

It is unknown at this point how the commission will replace Walker.

More will be available in Sunday's edition of The Murfreesboro Post.
