NEW ORLEANS – Middle Tennessee’s Ebony Rowe was selected as the Dec. 13 Sun Belt Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday following a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Rowe’s honor is her first of the season and fifth of her career. She set a conference single-season freshman record with four accolades a year ago on her way to receiving the Sun Belt’s Freshman of the Year award.
This past week, the Lexington, Ky., native put together her best week of the season thus far, averaging a double-double of 20.7 points and 10.7 rebounds as Middle Tennessee picked up a pair of victories. She increased her season double-double total to six with back-to-back solid performances against Austin Peay and at Xavier before falling just shy of the mark against the ACC’s Georgia Tech.
She started off with a 22-point, 10-rebound effort against Austin Peay by hitting 10-of-18 field goals Tuesday. Nineteen of her 22 points came during the first half.
In the lone road game of the month, at Xavier, Rowe poured in a season-best 24 points on a 10-of-21 performance, while she grabbed 10 offensive rebounds among her 13 boards, and adding five steals and three assists in playing the full 40 minutes. The 21 field goal attempts is a career high.
The Sun Belt co-Preseason Player of the Year topped the week off with a team-best 16 points and nine caroms against the much taller Yellow Jackets Sunday afternoon. She converted 8-of-17 field goals and continued to dominate the offensive glass.
Rowe increases the Blue Raiders’ overall totals to 31 since Rick Insell became head coach in 2005-06 and 42 since MT joined the Sun Belt in 2000-01. Her five awards place her in fourth among all Blue Raiders since joining the conference.
Middle Tennessee, in the midst of a week-long break due to fall semester final exams, will return to action with its 6-5 record at 2 p.m. Sunday when it plays host to Tennessee State inside the historic Murphy Center. The game can be heard on the Blue Raider Network of WMOT (89.5 FM) and WGNS (1450 AM, 100.5 FM, 101.9 FM).
In addition, 2012 Sun Belt Conference Tournament booklets are now on sale at the Middle Tennessee athletic ticket office. Cost per booklet is $83 and includes a ticket to all eight sessions of the Sun Belt Championships, March 3-6, in Hot Springs, Ark. |
