|Roger William Hedrick, age 69, of Murfreesboro, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at NHC. He was born August 30, 1942 in Dawson Springs, KY, and was the son of the late William Martin and Thelma Eli Hedrick of Greenville, KY.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty Guermonprez Rogers Hedrick; three children, daughter Ericka Hedrick Peckinpaugh and her three children, son Dr. William "Bill" Geurmonprez Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia, daughter Beth Rogers Swain and her husband David of Murfreesboro and grandchildren Shea Michael Swain and Scott Thomas Swain. Mr. Hedrick was preceded in death by his beloved son Roger "Scott" Hedrick who died in 1979.
Mr.. Hedrick came to Murfreesboro from Kentucky to attend MTSU on baseball and basketball scholarships. After graduating from MTSU with his BS and Masters degree in Education, he taught school in Joelton, TN and then Murfreesboro City Schools for over 40 years. He coached at Crichlow, Bradley Middle and taught physical education at Mitchell-Neilson Elementary. He also worked for the Murfreesboro Recreation Department for more than 30 years during each summer.
He will be remembered for his father role to Bill and Beth, as well as his love and devotion to his wife Betty and grandsons Shea and Scott Swain. Roger will be missed by many for his soft, gentle, kind ways that he showed to all he knew.
Roger was a Christian and loved Calvary Baptist Church and the love and support they gave to him and his wife throughout his illness. The Stevenson/King Connect group and Reeves Sunday school class have been a well of faith and support. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Stephen Odom and his staff, NHC personnel, Caris Hospice, and Chaplain Bob Bush.
Memorials may be made to the Children of Promise Building Program at Calvary Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, 431 DeJarnette Lane, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 to honor Roger's love of youth and continue his love for young lives to have an opportunity to know the Lord.
Dr. Mark Gregory of Calvary Baptist Church will conduct a private service at Evergeen Cemetery. Dr. Bill Rogers will present the eulogy for the family. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Appreciation for the Robert Adams family and NHC staff cannot be expressed in words. The patients, nurses, techs, housekeeping, maintenance and cafeteria personnel gave an abundance of love and care for Roger and his wife for many years. Personal caregivers Lieselotte Bernier, Ken and Paula Hughes and Jerry and Pat Lane, Dick and Cecilia Peach, Carl and Georgia Buckner were always there for support to Roger and Betty with a special love and concern.
