Community Realtions Coordinator James Evans issued the following statement Wednesday afternoon:
The Rutherford County Board of Education no longer has plans to discuss the Rockvale Middle School mascot issue at Thursday night’s regularly scheduled Board meeting.
After further consideration and additional input from both sides of the issue, Wayne Blair and Donald Jernigan — the two Board members who had requested for the item to be on the agenda — have asked for the item to be removed. As such, the Board has no immediate plans for further discussion of the Rockvale Middle School mascot.
A message is being sent to all Rockvale Middle parents, as well, because there has been much interest in this topic.
