Robert “Bob” Emmett O’Brien, age 78 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at his home after a short illness. A native of New York City, he was the son of the late James Henry and Myrtle Anne Plumley O’Brien.

Mr. O’Brien is survived by his wife of over 50 years Sue Pearce O’Brien; he was the father of two beautiful children son, James Robert O’Brien and his wife Susannah of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Susan O’Brien Todd and her husband Stu of Bentonville, AR; five grandchildren, Lucas and Maria O’Brien, Andrew, Evan, and Sam Todd; great grandson, Bowden White; three step- grandchildren, Hayley, Forrest, and Phillip Brown. He was a supportive father and loving husband. His grandchildren and great-grandson were one of the joys of his life.

A Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Farther Mark Sappenfield officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 PM.
Mr. O’Brien was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for over thirty-five years. He held a fourth degree in the Knights of Columbus.  He served in the US Air Force from 1953-1957, 1960-1961. He received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University in 1964. He enjoyed a long career as an aviation inspector with the FAA Flight Standards District Office in Nashville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Rose of Lima School Building Fund, in memory of Mr. O’Brien.
