Robbery suspects nabbed moments after hold up

TMP Reports

One man wearing a “Crypt Keeper” Halloween mask and his driver were charged with aggravated robbery moments after they were accused of robbing Midland Store employees at gunpoint Monday afternoon, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

Suspects Leslie J. Fetters, 37, who is homeless, and driver Mary P. Reynolds, 43, of 600 Nissan Drive in Smyrna, were charged with aggravated robbery and felony theft. Fetters was also charged with three counts of reckless endangerment with a weapon.

Employees called the sheriff’s office to report the robbery, Deputy Tony Taylor reported.

Deputy Joey Vann, who was stopped nearby on Midland and Rock Springs Road, reported he spotted the getaway vehicle moments later and stopped the suspects.

Sgt. Ty Downing, a former detective, provided more information to detain Fetters and Reynolds until Detective Steve Kohler arrived. Kohler obtained permission to search the vehicle. He recovered a.22-caliber revolver, ammunition and a black wig.

Taylor reported three employees were inside the market about 5 p.m. in southern Rutherford County when the masked man pointed a weapon at them and demanded, “Give me your money.”

They described the suspect as a white man wearing a Halloween mask, blue jeans, a dark shirt and tennis shoes. He carried a black gun, possibly a revolver.

On his way out, the robber toppled over a Bud Light beer display case.

“Upon him getting up, the Halloween mask came off and the suspect appeared to be a white male with dark short hair,” Taylor reported.

Once he left, the employees called the sheriff’s office to report the crime and give a description of the suspect and the car.

Sheriff’s spokesman Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin said Deputy Pat Garrett discovered more than $800 and a box taken from the store about 100 yards behind where the pursuit ended near a bridge over a creek. Deputy Will Lehew found the mask and gloves allegedly used by Fetters a short distance further down the road.

Those items were apparently tossed from the vehicle while out of Vann’s sight during the pursuit.

Fetters and Reynolds are suspects in another recent robbery and may well be connected to a robbery in Montgomery County, Goodwin reported.

They are being held in Rutherford County Adult Detention Center while awaiting a hearing Oct. 26 in General Sessions Court.
