Two robbery suspects were apprehended last week after they answered the victim’s cell phone and told the caller their location, Murfreesboro Police reported Thursday.

Detective Mike Taylor reported victims Michael McKinney and Justin Bennett were robbed while riding with two men Aug. 20 on South Church Street. The robbers pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded their property.

“One of the subjects then got Mr. McKinney in a headlock and removed several items from his wallet,” Taylor reported.

McKinney and Bennett got out of the car within moments. Bennett walked away while McKinney flagged down police.

Someone dialed McKinney’s cell phone that one of the suspects answered, the detective reported. He stated he was at Waffle House.

“Patrol officers were able to locate both individuals at that location in the vehicle Mr. McKinney had described,” Taylor reported.

McKinney identified both suspects as the one who allegedly robbed him and Bennett.

Police recovered from the car a handgun and marijuana.

Taylor charged suspects Kenneth Ray Hall, 21, of White Haven Drive and Sidney Waters, 20, of Nashville, with aggravated robbery, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a weapon.

They declined to give a statement. They were booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing was set Sept. 2 in General Sessions Court.
