Robbers targeted individuals during separate hold ups Monday and Wednesday, Murfreesboro Police reported Thursday.
Victim Kelly Carr of Twin Oak Drive was at On the Run about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday on New Salem Highway when a man told him he needed a ride, Officer Marja Atchley reported. The man pulled a handgun on Carr and ordered him to go to his bank and withdraw money.
Carr withdrew money, then the robber ordered him to go to the gas station at Kangaroo on South Church Street to buy cigarettes, the officer reported. The robber took Carr’s wallet and cellular telephone.
“He told Mr. Carr to stay put or he would shoot him while he went in the store,” Atchley reported.
Carr fled and contacted police. The robber was described as a white man wearing a dark T-shirt and blue jeans. He stood about 5-foot-8 and weighed about 175 to 185 pounds.
Detectives are investigating. People who have information may call the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717 or Crime Stoppers at 893-STOP.
In another case, Officer Skye Wortman reported Sonia Otavo of West Thompson Lane was shopping at Ross’ department store when three black women pushed her and grabbed her purse about 8:20 p.m. Monday. They ran outside and left in a dark car.
Items taken included $40 cash, credit cards, keys to a 2005 Trailblazer and a cellular telephone.
