Robber with box 'bomb' fails on 2nd holdup try

TMP Reports

A woman robber using a box she described as a bomb failed in her second attempt to rob a pharmacy Wednesday night, a Murfreesboro Police officer reported.

The woman placed a box into the pharmacy window about 7:40 p.m. at Walgreen’s on state Route 99 (New Salem Highway) and St. Andrews Drive, Officer Bryant Mitchell reported. A note attached to the box read, “Give up all the money in the register” because she had a bomb.

A pharmacy technician didn’t give the robber any money but simply closed the window and called 911.

Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans said the description of the woman was similar to a woman robber who placed a box she claimed was a bomb at the CVS pharmacy Monday on Old Fort Parkway and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money in a green Jeep Liberty.

The suspect at Walgreen’s was described as a white woman wearing beige glove, beige ski mask and large sunglasses. She drove a beige box-style SUV.

Mitchell evacuated the store after the box was left. K-9 handler Greg Hale responded to the scene with his bomb-sniffing dog but no bomb was found.

People who have information about the woman robber are asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717 or Crime Stoppers at 893-STOP between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
