Robber holds up man who gave him a ride

One victim was robbed of his cell phone and about $30 during a hold up Wednesday night outside Jefferson Green Apartments on Hanover Street, Murfreesboro Police reported.

Victim David Laroche Roper, 20, of Bridget Avenue gave a ride to a passenger he knew to the apartments, Officer Marja Atchley reported. As the passenger got out, he pointed a .40-caliber Glock at Roper and robbed him of the $500 cell phone and cash.

In an unrelated case, Officer Travis Henderson responded to a complaint of an intoxicated man with a pistol about 3:45 a.m. Thursday at East Clark Boulevard. The officer spotted the man climbing through the bushes and trees.

“I talked him into lying on the ground at gunpoint and then placed him into custody,” Henderson reported.

While frisking the man, Henderson recovered a small caliber handgun concealed in his back right pocket.

Suspect Dwight Simmons, 47, of East Clark Boulevard was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. His hearing is set Feb. 2 in General Sessions Court.

In another case, a manager at Taco Bell on Rutherford Boulevard flagged down Officer Kristy Inglish after a customer found a 9mm handgun magazine containing 14 rounds left in a booth.

The rounds were placed in the property room at the police department.
