Riverdale High to host 32nd Marching Competition

The Riverdale High School Band and band boosters will present the 32nd Annual Division I State Marching Band Championship on November 7.

Twenty-seven bands from across the state will compete for the “Governors Cup,” presented annually to the best Division I marching band in the State of Tennessee. The day-long competition draws over 5,000 visitors to Murfreesboro to listen and participate in this event. To be eligible, high schools must have no more than 500 students in their 9-12 grade student body.

Competing bands include: Huntland, West Carroll, Huntington, McKenzie, Rockwood, Richland, Trousdale County, Oliver Springs, Hollow Rock-Bruceton, Donelson Christian Academy, Wayne County, Davidson Academy, White House Heritage, Halls, Harriman, Ezell-Harding Christian, Mt. Pleasant, Houston County, Eagleville, Adamsville, Cascade, East Robertson, Boyd Buchanan, Fayette Academy, Goodpasture Christian, Collinwood, and Forrest.

The bands compete during the day and ten finalists are selected for the finals which begin at 6:45 p.m. The Riverdale High School Band will perform at 9:15 p.m. while the judges make their decisions. Awards are presented after the Finalist Pass in Review at 9:35 p.m.

Make plans to attend the only state marching band championship in this area. Performances begin at 9:00 a.m. Advance tickets are $10 for the entire day with a pass to come and go as needed. All competing bands will have advance tickets for sale. Ticket price at the gate will be $11.

Concessions, souvenirs, t-shirts, and programs are available. The boosters provide a sit down dinner for $6 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Reservations are required.
