River Rock Blvd. near Hwy. 99 closed until year's end | TRAFFIC
Rock River Boulevard will be closed from State Route 99 to Stoney Meadow Drive for the next three to six months, Murfreesboro’s Traffic Engineer said.

The winding road will be closed for an improvement project starting Wednesday, weather permitting. When finished, the road will be flatter, straighter and wider, Ram Balachandran, City Traffic Engineer.

The new River Rock will have three lanes, including curbs, gutters, sidewalks and bike lanes will extend the length of the road. A traffic light will also be installed at the River Rock-Highway 99 intersection.

“It’s a bad alignment,” he added. “We could just do it without closing it.”

Local traffic will be allowed at all times, but through traffic will be detoured from Highway 99 onto Athens Avenue to Adonis Drive to Spartan Court to Pecan Ridge Drive to Centertree Drive and back onto River Rock.

Balachandran said there are many other roads like Cason Trail that can also be used to avoid the construction.

“I’m hoping to open it up earlier, but I’m expecting it will take three to six months,” Balachandran said.

I hope, when they're done with it the traffic will flow better than it does on the other end of River Rock Blvd. for people who are trying to get on to or off of 96.

Sad the people will not go over to Cason Lane and come out onto HWY 99 with a traffic signal, it would be safer.
Unfortunately you still have to dodge the man-holes and electrical boxes that are still sticking up which can puncture your tires. Why the city has not paved that is confusing. If you do get a tire, take your bill and a statement to City Attorney's Office for reimbursement.

I hope they beef up patrol during this detour in the residential area to keep the speeders at bay so the neighborhood kids stay safe. There is a large amount of kids that play in this so called "detour" that it will only be a matter of time before we have another fallen angel. The only thing that brightens my day is that the speeders will never see the bumps in the street that can bottom out your car and due some serious damage.

It was great to sit in the neighbor’s driveway and drink a few beers and watch all this speedy traffic with no cops in sight to slow them down while the speeding cars ran both stop signs. It might sound like a scene out of "King of the Hill" but maybe the Halloween Extravaganza lights at my neighbor’s house will slow some of the speeders down.
