The city council will look at increasing sewer rates, fees and charges at its Thursday night meeting.

According to the ordinance, the sewer rate will increase 60 cents from $2.74 to $3.34 per 100 cubic feet and the operation fee will increase 20 cents from 70 cents to 90 cents.

Minimum monthly charges will also increase depending on meter size and monthly allowance. For example a 5/8-inch meter with an allowance of 200 cubic feet will cost $9.22 per month, where a 6-inch meter with a 24,900 cubic feet allowance will cost $1,058.30 per month.

The city Water and Sewer Board recommended raising the rates to pay off current and future debt from improvements to the system.

The Water and Sewer Board also wants to increase the cost of starting service to $50 for same day connection and $40 for any day after.
