The Rigney Family Bluegrass Band will headline the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee Chapter Barn Party 2009 Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at Womack Stables in Murfreesboro.

The popular local band is quickly gaining attention on the bluegrass scene with their unique, appealing blend of family vocal harmonies and innovative bluegrass instrumentation.

Dad, Mark, plays banjo and Mom, Melissa, plays bass while the award-winning musician sons, Grant and Andrew, switch between mandolin, guitar and fiddle.

The Rigneys have a great sense of balancing traditional and new sounds. Their music ranges from contest-style fiddle songs, traditional bluegrass favorites, originals and gospel.

They perform regularly at events in Middle Tennessee and other locations.

Their album, "Stone County," will be available at the Barn Party.

All funds raised through ticket sales and company sponsorships will go to help the local Red Cross Chapter help victims of local disasters, such as fires, tornadoes and floods.

The Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on gifts from the community to respond to disasters around the clock and around the block. This fundraiser will help your local Red Cross serve your neighbors in need in Middle Tennessee every day.

The event will be held at Womack Stables rain or shine.

To become a 2009 event sponsor, to purchase tickets or for more information contact Beth Ferguson at 615-893-4272 ext. 106 or via e-mail at fergusonb@hot-redcross.org.

The Heart of Tennessee Chapter of the American Red Cross provides vital emergency assistance to help victims of local disasters in Rutherford, Bedford, Cannon, Franklin, Coffee and Moore counties. Over the past year the chapter trained nearly 15,000 people in CPR and first aid, babysitting and aquatics training, and provided pre-deployment briefings and emergency communications for more than 640 active duty military personnel and their families.

More than 13,177 pints of life-saving blood were collected from the community last year. All of these services are made possible by over 320 dedicated local Red Cross volunteers as well as through generous gifts from the local community.
