Rifle shot barely misses officer: police | MURFREESBORO POLICE

Trevor Young
One round fired from a rifle barely missed a Murfreesboro Police officer's head when he and three other officers responded to a domestic call early Friday, the department spokesman said.

Officers Trevor Young and Travis Henderson and Detectives Richard Presley and Ed Gorham responded at 2:02 a.m. to 1115 Brinkley Road Lot C-10 (F&B Trailer Park) in reference to an
intoxicated female threatening to shoot her boyfriend, spokesman Kyle Evans reported.

When officers arrived, Young knocked on the door while the other officers took a cover position.

"A female opened the door and a male subject later identified as Ralph King 1115 Brinkley Road Lot C-10 W/M 5-11-63 standing behind the female, fired a shot with a rifle in the immediate proximity of Officer Young's head," Evans reported. "Officer Young fell to the ground and Mr. King exited the trailer and was taken into custody without further incident."

Young received minor injuries as a result of the rifle being shot in his immediate proximity and from the subsequent fall to the ground. He was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center and released.

During the subsequent search, officers recovered the rifle used to shoot at the officers and discovered a handgun and a bag of marijuana, he reported.

Gorham obtained arrest warrants for King charging him with four counts of attempted murder and possession of marijuana. He was transported to Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court March 9.

"The Murfreesboro Police Department is thankful that no officers were seriously injured as a result of this attempted murder," Evans said.

Officer Young went home with an undesireable award for serving and protecting the lives of his community. And even though this thing happened I'm sure all our officers will be back at work for their next shift, because that is the men and women who take on this task.

We should all be thankful the shot missed and that nothing unspeakable happened to any of the officers or inocent by standers.

God Bless all the offiers who put their lives on the the line every day for us.

They are the
"Soldiers Who Fight The Battles On The Home Front" and deserver the respect and support of us all.

Thank God he was not seriously hurt like the officer from Columbia. We should all pray for the police, firemen, doctors, nurses and EMT's who help us each and every day when we need them.

I couldn't have said it better than eagle50 and tnwolf! I know from recent personal experience that there is none finer than our EMT's and our police officers. Thanks so much for all you did, and for all you do everyday to keep us safe!

Despite the low morale of the MPD because of the higher ups, our patrol officers still do a great job by putting their lives on the line every day. We all thank you.

Thank God the officer was not seriously hurt or worse. His Guardian angel was with him. We are proud of all of Law Enforcement who lay their lives on the line everyday. From the newest officer to the highest Senior Officer who has to make tuff decisions and bear the brunt and burden of leadership. God bless all of our Law Enforcement Departments. Rutherford County is truly blessed in many, many ways.
