Relationships fuel growth of med spa | Business, Equilibrium

Equilibrium MedSpa's Managing partner Lori Hoyt, Chiropractor Dr. Gage Stallings and Spa Coordinator Allison Johns.
Equilibrium MedSpa is about the relationships made rather than the sales made, said the med spa's managing partner.

That's the reason Equilibrium recently celebrated its third year in operation, Lori Hoyt said. Spa staff makes a connection with clients and don't hard sell anything.

Equilibrium is a full service medical spa offering advanced medical aesthetic services and procedures under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Maxwell. Maxwell is co-owner of the med spa and practices medicine at St. Andrews Family Practice next door.

"We took the concept of day spa but added purpose to it," Hoyt said.

The med spa offers a variety of services including skin care education, comprehensive consultations, facials, massage, laser hair removal, skin tightening, Botox and dermal fillers, non-ablative and ablative skin resurfacing, as well as an extensive line of products.

Equilibrium has continued to grow, expanding its list of services, in an attempt to address total body wellness. The med spa looks at the whole person instead of just treating skin.

"Our goal would be to get patients living healthier lifestyles and off medications," Hoyt said.

Chiropractic care and acupuncture are now offered through Equilibrium by Dr. Gage Stallings.

Nutritional supplements are available for clients needing better nutrition.

Equilibrium also is offering a 12-week healthier lifestyle program that gives clients a skincare consultation, one hour facial and mineral make-up application, a free chiropractic consultation and first adjustment treatment, free injectibles consultation and Botox at $8 per unit and a free health lifestyle/wellness consultation.

To give back to the local community, Equilibrium is in the process of creating its own foundation Equilibrium Cares.

The foundation will allow Equilibrium to raise funds and offer free spa services to caregivers.

Hoyt said Equilibrium has had numerous requests for services for caregivers. They wanted to offer these services to caregivers for free because it may be the only time they have to relax during a day.

"It makes a difference in the family's life," she said.

Equilibrium also has some big plans in the works for the next few years.

The med spa wants to have its own freestanding building with a saltwater float tank, which is an alternative therapy for chronic pain. It also helps with relaxation and detoxification. The closest tank now is located in North Carolina.

Stallings said there is a wide range of benefits from using a float tank from psychological to physical therapy.

The tank turns down the volume of the outside world, he said.

"It is like hitting the reset button on your body," Stallings said.
