Recycle Rutherford will hold its semi-annual meeting Monday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. in the second floor courtroom of the Rutherford County Courthouse in Murfreesboro.
Larry Christley, a program manager at the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, will discuss the economics of recycling and how important it is to the state’s economy.
Crystal Mallery, president of Recycle Rutherford, said the organization is also conducting a phone book recycling campaign in cooperation with YP, publisher of the Real Yellow Pages phone directories, and the Rutherford County Solid Waste Department.
Teachers can earn $200 cash prizes for their classrooms by having their students collect and recycle phone books at any recycling center in the county. After the classes collect the phone books, the teacher can e-mail the number of books recycled to recyclerutherford@yahoo.com.
Recycle Rutherford is a volunteer organization dedicated to increasing recycling in the area.
