Rebecca "Becky" Lou Smith, age 89 of Murfreesboro, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017.

She was a native of Rutherford County and the daughter of the late Hoyt and Pearl Marlin Smith.

Ms. Smith was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School, David Lipscomb University and Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. She held jobs at Ohio State University Library, David Lipscomb Library and Middle Tennessee State University Library. While at David Lipscomb, she substituted for librarians during the summer at WSU, Whitewater, WI, Seattle Public Library, San Diego Public Library and Ohio Valley College in WV.

While living in Murfreesboro, she was an active member of the North Boulevard Church of Christ. While at MTSU library, 1969-1988, she served as Secretary of the Faculty Senate for two years and as President of the Middle Tennessee Library Association for two years.

She is survived by her cousins, Charles B. Smith and his wife Ann, James H. Smith and his wife June, Linda Marlin West, Sue Ann Marlin Johnson, Raleigh William Marlin and his wife Brenda.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two cousins, Hoyt Stewart Marlin and Harry Marlin.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, March 24, 2017 from 12 until 2 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

Funeral service will be Friday, March 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. David Young and Calvin Groen will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ernest Smith, Guy Freeman, Jimmy McKnight, Eric Wessner, Raleigh W. Marlin, Ricky Marlin, Harry Marlin, III and Eric Lynch.

Memorials may be sent to North Boulevard Church of Christ for the Neema House in Tanzania, 1112 N Rutherford Blvd, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 in memory of Ms. Smith.
