Read to Succeed’s adult literacy program has seen a large increase in willing learners, especially from North Rutherford County.

The increase in learners means RTS needs more tutors.

So, it’s holding tutor training from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 17 and 24 at Rockin Chair Cafe and LaVergne Public Library. Lunch will be provided for both trainings.

Tutors will learn to assist adult learners in acquiring basic literacy skills based on personal, self-identified goals, and increase learner self confidence and self sufficiency.

To become a tutor, you must attend an orientation and pre-service training for two six-hour sessions for a total of 12 hours of training.

Tutoring sessions are held at mutually convenient time and public location. Tutors do NOT provide transportation or meet at places of residence. Sessions occur regularly (once or twice a week) for 1 ½ to 2 hours. A nine-month commitment is strongly recommended.

The Read To Succeed Adult Literacy Program addresses the basic literacy needs of adults in Rutherford County who want to develop their skills for personal and/or career development.

To sign up for training, contact Adult Literacy Coordinator Shelly Stanley at 615-738-7323 or readtosucceed@comcast.net.

Find it on the Web at www.readtosucceed.org.
