MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Read To Succeed will be hosting a volunteer training on Tuesday, Jan. 28, for residents interested in helping with literacy programs and special events throughout the coming months.

The sessions is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Lon Nuell Literacy Center inside First Baptist Church near downtown Murfreesboro and will wrap up at about 7 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, officials said the training will take place the following Tuesday, Feb. 4.

As trained volunteers, residents will have the opportunity to assist Read to Succeed in a variety of ways.

They can train to be a one-on-one tutor in the adult literacy program, help teach English as a second language classes, serve food or pass out books at local schools during Read To Succeed events, and help spread the word about the many free services the organization offers.

Participants will be given information about each of these programs and all the events that require volunteer help.
