Make story-time even more dynamic with Read To Succeed’s Reader Training on Tuesday, July 31.

Teachers, volunteers, childcare providers or community members who just want to make their time reading to a child more engaging are invited to attend this training at Linebaugh Library in Murfreesboro.

Experts such as Terri Tharp, professor of elementary and special education at MTSU, will provide tips and guidelines on how to make reading aloud to children as effective as possible. There will also be several demonstrations of active, engaging reading from people like Linebaugh Library Director Rita Shacklett.

People interested in volunteering Sept. 21 for Read To Succeed’s annual Reading in the Schools Day are also encouraged to attend.

“Reading aloud to a group can be a little intimidating,” said Lisa Mitchell, Read To Succeed executive director. “We want everyone to leave this training more comfortable with reading to children and invigorated with new ideas on how to make story-time fun and educational.”

The training will take place July 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the children’s section of Linebaugh Library. If you’d like to attend, R.S.V.P. to rtsprograms@readtosucceed.org or call 615-738-READ.
