I also eat meat, and I do believe that the small farmer/rancher practices good animal husbandry. They probably don't give the animals names, but they most likely do provide appropriate feed and living conditions; of course that is to protect their investment not to be nice to the animal. But that is not a bad thing, it is just the way it is and I think the animal doesn't care that the farmer/rancher didn't give it a name. I am not so sure about SOME factory farms.
I think that we all need to take a step back and look at the real problem. It is the same problem that plagues congress. The people who scream the loudest often have an agenda, and they often do not care about you or me or anyone else. They just want what they want. The bankers gambled with money in risky get rich schemes. politicians block legislation
(dem's did it to republican when repub's were in power too)
personal accountability seems to be something no one embraces anymore. You mix that with the depravity of the person who beat that 14 year old beagle that had to be euthanized, and you have real evil.
So we need to stand up and speak out when we see what doesn't look right, but we also need to apologize just as publicly when we are wrong.
Being accountible for what we do and say seems to be a delicate balance that we as a country seem to have lost.
