Deputies from Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office are preparing for the winter storm expected to strike after 10 p.m. Sunday and blanket the county with snow and perhaps ice, Sheriff Robert F. Arnold said.

Arnold met with his command staff Sunday afternoon to prepare for providing the best service for Rutherford County citizens.

“We are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best,” Arnold said. “We are asking Rutherford County citizens to please not get on the roadways and stay at home.”

To prepare, all school resource officers who are not expected to be in schools will work on patrol, one half on the day shift and one half on the evening shift, the sheriff said. Uniformed detectives will join the SROs in patrol. Detectives and SROs will use four-wheel drives placed in high-volume areas to answer calls.

Arnold asked county residents who have emergencies to be patient because the storm may slow response. Residents with emergencies are asked to dial 911 while residents with non-emergencies are asked to call 898-7770.

Residents may check the sheriff’s Facebook page to get regular updates about crashes and road conditions.

Sheriff’s deputies will coordinate and work with the Rutherford County Fire and Rescue Department, Emergency Management Agency and other county departments in responding to the expected winter storm.
