Rutherford County’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday night to discuss proposed zones for the new Buchanan and Oakland middle schools.
The zones are not final and may well change in the next few weeks before a public hearing is held, RCS spokesman James Evans said.
As laid out now OMS will house 935 students from the Lascassas, Siegel, Kittrell and Central districts. And BMS will hold 716 students from the Buchanan, Christiana, Kittrell and Central districts.
The board will also meet Thursday night for its regular monthly meeting, where it will consider moving the 2011 spring break from April to March.
As with the 2009-2010 school calendar, the previously approved 2010-2011 school calendar needs to be revised to accommodate the elementary TCAP testing schedule.
Because the state moved the elementary TCAP testing window from March to April, spring break must move also from April to March in 2011.
The Board approved a similar change in the 2009-2010 calendar at its Aug. 13 meeting, when the state initially notified the school system of the changes.
