The leader of Rutherford County Schools will stay the same until at least 2011, if the board chooses to renew Harry Gill’s contract Thursday night.

Board of Education Chairman Mark Byrnes said the board has been “quite pleased” with Gill performance over the years – both academically and in his relationships with the board and the Rutherford County Commission.

“The director’s most basic responsibility is to be a strong academic leader, and Mr. Gill is such a leader,” Byrnes said.

“Our system is one of the few across the state which earned straight A’s in both achievement and value-added on the state report card—an indication of high academic success,” he added.

Byrnes also praised Gill’s work overseeing the district’s exponential population growth and building program during his tenure.

Gill’s current contract expires in June 2010, but the board will vote to extend the contract until 2011.

He was evaluated in December and received a 4.73 out of five from the board.

I agree "gofer". This is sure is a hot head, especially when someone is opposing him. So, since this is not a elected position, is it an appointed position?

There is quite a few that needs re-evaluated, even in the transportation department.
