| Some Riverdale High School students may not be Warriors next year, as the school board looks into a new zone for the school.
At its Tuesday night work session, Rutherford County Board of Education discussed rezoning students from Riverdale to Blackman or Oakland.
“The Board is going to be looking at a rezoning plan because of the overcrowding at Riverdale,” RCS Spokesman James Evans said.
Evans compared Riverdale’s student population of almost 2,400 with 17 portables to Oakland’s population of 1,600 and Blackman’s 1,900 students.
“Over the next three months, there will be public hearings and the staff will draw up some rezoning options based on parent input, numbers and demographics,” Evans said.
The board of education will then review options with a vote to come in January.
“There will be plenty of opportunities for parent input and at this point, the Board is just getting started on the discussions,” Evans said.
