Someone spray-painted a racist remark on an ice cream truck driven by a black man and parked outside a tavern Monday on Greenland Drive, Murfreesboro Police reported.

Driver Dannie Finkley Jr., of Bradyville Pike was inside Gentleman Jim’s on Greenland Drive about 10 minutes and walked outside to see the racist remark, Officer Michael Levy reported.

A witness told Levy he saw a man spray painting the van before leaving in a red 1990s SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.

Detective Doug Arrington is investigating. People who have information may call Arrington at 893-2717 or call Crime Stoppers at 893-STOP between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In an unrelated crime, victim Alberto Hernandez of Bradyville Pike reported three men robbed him of $400 cash, a cellular telephone, a wallet and identification Friday night near his home, Officer Angelo Medina reported.

Hernandez, who was driving a friend’s car, pulled into the Stonecreek Apartments parking lot. While sitting in the car, the robbers approached him and threatened him with the pistol. They robbed him of his property and drove off with his friend’s car.

He described the suspects to police.

Aggravated burglary and theft charges were filed against a suspect accused of stealing golf clubs from a garage owned by Franklin Cowan of Big Eagle Trail, Detective Kerry Thorpe reported.

Suspect Clifford Coleman III, 25, of Heartland Lane was charged after he gave a statement about his involvement, Thorpe reported.

His hearing is set Oct. 12 in General Sessions Court.
