Five years ago my sister in Texas came out of a tornado that wiped out her subdivision.
After we talked, I took my kids' bike helmets and placed them in the same closet they would be in when weather was a threat, also placing our boat life-jackets and our dogs tags in this closet.
When our son needs his bike helmet, he knows where to get the helmet, but when weather is a threat and we need to get in our safe-area, we know the helmets are ready, life-jackets are put on and the dogs get their tags. This recent tornado reminded me how dangerous sandals could have been should there be glass, etc. I am now adding old pairs of shoes. The rubber soles will also best. Please encourage parents to stop storing the bike helmets in the garage, instead start keeping them their weather-safe area, along with an old pair of shoes, a life jacket if they have one and pet tags should they be misplaced. You can never be too safe. |
