Mid-State Surgery announces the addition of a third general surgeon to their team.

Dr. Stephen Rich will join the surgical group of Drs. Mark Akins and Jeff Ryan in August. A native of Shelbyville, Dr. Rich specializes in general and laparoscopic surgical procedures.

“I am happy to be back in Murfreesboro and joining this great team,” says Rich. “Mid-State Surgery has a wonderful reputation in the area as expert surgeons who care for their patients and give back to the community. I am proud to be a part of that tradition.”

Rich is a University of Tennessee graduate completing his undergraduate studies at UT Knoxville and medical school at UT Memphis. Rich completed his residency and internship at UT-Chattanooga. Rich also holds a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham.

Rich is a member of the American Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, and is a resident member of the American College of Surgeons.

“Dr. Rich is a great fit for our team,” says Akins. “His attitude and empathy for the patient’s needs is truly impressive. His concern for patients is evident.”

Plummer joins F&M Bank

F&M Bank has announced the addition of veteran Rutherford County banker, Bruce Plummer, to direct the bank’s business development as the bank continues its expansion in Murfreesboro.

Plummer has spent the majority of his 40-year banking career in Rutherford County, working most recently for Wilson Bank & Trust and MidSouth Bank. He also spent 10 years as vice president and director of education of the Tennessee Banker’s Association (TBA).

“Bruce brings enthusiasm, experience and keen insight into the Rutherford County business environment,” remarked Sammy Stuard, president and chief executive officer of F&M Bank. “His intimate knowledge of the business community in this market will make him a valuable asset as F&M continues to develop relationships in the Murfreesboro area.”

“It’s an honor to be a part of F&M Bank,” remarked Plummer. This bank has a 100-year history in middle Tennessee, but has really accelerated their growth in the past few years. While employed with the TBA, I had the opportunity to work with Sammy Stuard, who is now chairman of the Tennessee Bankers. Plummer has a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech and has graduated from the Tennessee School of Banking at Vanderbilt and the Graduate School of Banking of the South at LSU.

He is active in many Rutherford County civic and community organizations. A few of his leadership positions include: former treasure of the Rutherford County United Givers Fund, now the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, past board member and treasurer of Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford County Revitalization, former trustee of the MTSU Foundation and coordinating fund-raiser for the Chair of Finance at MTSU. Plummer and his wife are members of First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Once remodeling is complete this fall, F&M will move its full-service banking offices from 1875-B Memorial Blvd. to 802 Memorial Blvd. The bank’s mortgage operation will remain in their current location.

F&M Bank is the 23rd largest bank in Tennessee in assets with 13 full-service banking facilities in Rutherford, Wilson, Montgomery, Robertson and Stewart counties. In addition to the new Murfreesboro facility, F&M will soon open a new White House office in Robertson County.

Faiz joins Children's Dentistry of Murfreesboro

Jack D. Mallette, DDS, announces the addition of Joe Faiz, DDS to Children’s Dentistry of Murfreesboro.

Dr. Faiz specializes in pediatric dentistry, the field of dentistry that focuses on the oral health of children from infancy to adolescence.

Kelton joins Murfreesboro Surgical Specialists

Drs. George Eckles and Wayne Westmoreland proudly announce the addition of Dr. Michael Kelton to Murfreesboro Surgical Specialists.

Dr. Kelton, a general surgeon, recently completed his residency and internship at the University of Tennessee-Memphis. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as the general medical officer onboard the USS Shreveport and Commander of Amphibious Group Two in Norfolk, Vir.

A native of Lascassas, Dr. Kelton completed his undergraduate degree at MTSU. He completed his medical degree at the University of Tennessee-Memphis College of Medicine in 1997.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the medical community of my hometown,” says Kelton. “The opportunity to move home and practice with these two outstanding and respected surgeons is tremendous.”
