Police are searching for a Hispanic man accused of stabbing his wife’s boyfriend Thursday on Maney Avenue, Murfreesboro Police reported.
He is accused of stabbing victim Diego Garcia Becerra in the chest with a switchblade at Kristy Maynard’s home, Officer Tamara Jensen reported. Becerra was treated by paramedics and taken to Middle Tennessee Medical Center. He was later flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Jensen found Becerra seated on the side porch of the house covered with a jacket and surrounded by two women screaming for help.
The suspect, who lives in Memphis, called his wife Maynard about 9 p.m. Wednesday to inform her he planned to “get Diego because he does not do enough for the children,” Jensen reported. The suspect also told Maynard he planned to kidnap her infant because she is not capable of taking care of her children.
Becerra is the biological father of both of Maynard’s children. Maynard is married to the suspect but separated.
He allegedly broke into Maynard’s home about 1:45 p.m., then ran straight to Becerra.
“Diego was attempting to hide in the bathroom and (the suspect) opened the door before Diego could get it locked and stabbed him with a ‘possible’ switchblade,” Jensen reported. “After he stabbed Diego, he never said a word and ran out the side door, got into his maroon Ford truck and sped out of the neighborhood.”
Police spokesman Kyle Evans reported police are searching for the suspect wanted on charges of especially aggravated burglary, attempted first-degree murder and domestic assault.
He is described as a 24-year-old Hispanic man with a short, clean haircut. He possibly wears a mustache. He drove a maroon Ford Ranger with the Tennessee license plate of 518NXW. The truck has a side step, tinted windows and dents in different areas. The truck may have a toolbox in the bed.
People who have information about his location are asked to call Murfreesboro Police at 893-1311.
